Terms of Service
Last updated 24 August 2026.
Who we are
Tape is operated by Tape With Magic, contactable at hello@withmagic.ai. In these terms, "we" and "us" mean Tape With Magic, and "you" means the person or organisation using the service.
What the service does
Tape records remote interviews. The host creates a room and sends a link. Each participant's browser records that participant's own camera and microphone locally, and uploads the recording in pieces to our storage while the session is running. The host additionally records a call-quality backup of the guest's incoming stream. The host can then play back and download the resulting files.
Accounts and guests
A guest joining by link does not need an account. The host is responsible for having the right to record the people they invite, and for telling them they are being recorded. Tape shows a recording indicator to every participant, but that does not replace obtaining consent.
Your content
You own your recordings. We do not claim any right to them beyond what is needed to provide the service: storing them, transmitting them to you, and deleting them on schedule. We do not sell your recordings and we do not use them to train models.
Retention — read this one
Recordings are deleted automatically 30 days after the session. This is not a grace period we may extend at our discretion; it is enforced by a storage lifecycle rule. Download anything you need before then. We cannot recover a recording once it has been deleted.
Acceptable use
Do not use Tape to record people without their knowledge where that is unlawful, to record material that is illegal to possess or distribute, or to attempt to access recordings that are not yours. We may suspend an account that does.
Reliability, and the limits of it
Tape is built to be resilient — recordings are written to local storage before they are sent, uploads run during the session rather than after, and no upload is reported as complete until our server confirms it. We take that seriously and it is the point of the product.
It is still software running inside a browser on a device we do not control. We cannot guarantee that every session will record or upload successfully. A device can run out of disk, a browser can be closed, an operating system can end a background process. To the maximum extent permitted by law, the service is provided "as is", and our total liability to you for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim.
Payment
Paid plans are billed in advance through Stripe. See our refund and cancellation policy for how billing, cancellation and refunds work.
Changes
We may update these terms. If a change materially reduces your rights we will tell you by email before it takes effect, where we hold an email address for you.
